Dealer Cost Amsoil

I have compiled this webpage for one reason-to sell Amsoil to "Corvair People" at dealer cost + actual shipping.  I will make no attempt to sales pitch you on the products except to mention a few Corvair specific benefits, and offer links to the correct Amsoil Corporate web pages with specifications.

For those of you who find it difficult to FIND Amsoil, or who are too budget minded to pay the costs for this synthetic oil, here's your chance to save a few bucks.

10W-40 Synthetic Oil

The preferred Amsoil product for your Corvair is their product code AMO 10W-40 100% synthetic oil.   Besides all the benefits of synthetic, this particular formulation has 1378 ppm zinc and 1265 ppm phosphorus, the two ingredients that are disappearing from modern oils, but are generally considered necessary for older cars, flat tappet engines, etc. This formulation of Amsoil also meets the CI-4 requirements and is API approved.  Additional specifications can be found on the Amsoil website by following this link:  http://www.amsoil.com/storefront/amo.aspx  Note that Amsoil publishes more specifications about their products for the general public than any other oil I've found.

The current retail price of this oil is $8.60 a quart, which is the list price as charged at the Amsoil website. They will also add to this UPS shipping, and sales tax. This oil can also be found on some retail store shelves and of course can be ordered from a local Amsoil dealer (who will also add on sales tax). A local dealer may also add on for shipping, as in shipping from the factory or distribution center to him. Many retail outlets charge more per quart. Some Corvair vendors also offer this oil, one has it in their catalog at $8.85 a quart.

I am offering this oil, Amsoil 100% synthetic, 10W-40 as described here to ANY member of what I consider the "Corvair Family" at DEALER COST plus ACTUAL SHIPPING to YOU from ME. Current dealer cost for this oil is $6.75 per quart.  This is YOUR price from me.  I have been an Amsoil dealer since 1979, but have NEVER sold any product at retail.  I'm simply a dealer because I like to purchase for myself wholesale, and I also purchase for my family and friends.  I have used Amsoil in everything I have since 1979, and this particular 10W-40 oil in all my collector cars since then as well.  I live near enough to the factory that I pick up directly from them, so I do not have the costs of getting product shipped to myself.  I'm not trying to make any money at it. I just want to help provide Corvair people with what I believe to be the best product available for our cars.

All my shipping will be done via US Postal Service, as that is what is available to me here in my small town where the PO is half a block away.  You can have your choice of priority mail or parcel post shipping.  You can be pay me via Paypal (preferred) or send a check or MO.  I am going to ship product to customers during the first week of every month. Each month I'll pick up what is needed at the factory, and ship the first week each month. You need to get payment to me before the end of any month to get your product the first week of the next month.  e.g. You want oil the first week in May, get your order to me by the end of April. I need to keep it simple!

The cost of oil is easy. How many quarts x $6.75 each.  Shipping will vary depending on where you are. If you e-mail me with how many quarts you want I will compute the total with both priority and parcel post mail shipping, you pay which you prefer, and that's how I'll ship it.  If you're a long way off (Alaska, Hawaii for example) I'll try to see what I can shove into a flat rate priority box to get you a better price on shipping.  This is all about getting it to you as cheaply as possible.   After I e-mail you back with price with shipping, I'll also include Paypal info and an address if you prefer to mail payment.  For a rough idea figure about 2 pounds per quart (it's a tad over actually) and go to the USPS website, punch in 55709 (my zip code) and your zip code, and it will give you a good ballpark.  It will vary by a few cents due to the "tad more than 2 pounds" and the weight of a box.

20W-50 Synthetic Oil

Due to several inquiries I must add Amsoil ARO 20W-50 oil to the list as well. Seems many of you prefer a 20W-50 weight.  Amsoil 20W-50 Premium Protection oil ALSO contains plenty of zinc (1379 ppm) and phosphorus (1266 ppm) as we like for our engines.  It also meets specification CI-4.  It costs a bit more than the above oil.  List price is $8.85 a quart, "Corvair Family" price is $6.75 a quart, plus actual shipping via USPS.  Amsoil's spec sheet for this oil is at: http://www.amsoil.com/storefront/aro.aspx if you would like the technical details. Note that Amsoil also has a 20W-50 racing oil, which also has similar zinc/phosphorus levels but is NOT listed as meeting the CI-4 specification.

15W40 Synthetic Diesel/Gasoline Synthetic Blend Oil

There are two other Amsoil products that meet the basic requirements for our Corvairs, and offer different weights and varying specifications, still with the right amounts of zinc, phosphorus and meeting CI-4 specs.
Amsoil 15W40 100% synthetic blend diesel/gasoline engine oil. Specs are at http://www.amsoil.com/storefront/pco.aspx.  List price is $6.85/quart "Corvair Family" price dealer cost is $5.15 per quart. Note, this is a "synthetic blend" and gives you *some* of the benefits of a synthetic oil, but not as much as one of the other 100% synthetics.  You can see this yourself in the spec sheets.  However, it far surpasses the performance of ANY petroleum oil.

Gear Oil

Same deal on Amsoil's 80W-90 Gear Oil.  Changing to a synthetic gear lube is probably the easiest thing you can do that will show an immediate improvement in shifting smoothness and increases in horsepower and mileage. Especially if you drive in cool or cold temperatures.  Below zero weather makes shifting very difficult, synthetic gear lube makes the world a better place. Same deal as with the oil (or filters-below). Amsoil's full list price is $9.20 a quart.  Corvair vendor catalog price is $9.80 a quart! Dealer direct to you with no markup is $7.10 a quart + actual shipping.  Again, e-mail for a quote.  Follow this link for the specifics from Amsoil.

Transmission Fluid

I have also received several inquiries about an Amsoil synthetic transmission fluid for the Powerglide.  Amsoil's Synthetic Universal Automatic Transmission Fluid is the definitive choice. specification's and more information is at: http://www.amsoil.com/StoreFront/atf.aspx.  Amsoil's list price is $9.75, Corvair vendor catalog price is $11.05.  "Corvair Family" wholesale price is $7.35 per quart.

Grease

Heavy duty Synthetic Grease.  This is the grease you want in those rare, hard to replace, expensive early model rear wheel bearings!  Comes in 8 oz tubes or 14 oz cartridge. Amsoil list price is $5.45,  Corvair vendor catalog price is $6.70, and your cost is $4.55 a tube.  Details at: http://www.amsoil.com/StoreFront/glc.aspx

Air Filters

Amsoil also offers a line of air filters with new nanofiber technology.  I won't get into all the specifics here as I'm trying to avoid a sales pitch. But if you're after increased air flow and maximum filtration along with savings, reuseability and convenience, you may want to check these out.  If you're running a K&N filter for increased airflow, I feel so bad for you.  A "wet gauze" cotton style, oiled filter DOES NOT filter anywhere NEAR as well as even a cheap paper filter from the discount store! You're getting a ton more air, but you're also getting a crapload of dirt and dust with it!  The Amsoil nanofiber filters give you much more airflow than a paper filter, and way better filtration compared to an oiled filter OR a paper filter.  Plus you don't have to mess with all that gooey filter oil! When they get dirty, you don't wash and re-oil (how messy is THAT anyway) you shop vac 'em, or blow 'em out with an air hose, and put 'em back in! For info check out:

and

These pages will pretty much answer all your questions. Unfortunately for us, they only offer one filter that applies to the Corvair, but it does fit a LOT of different Corvairs! If your 'Vair takes the AC A178CW filter (which also crosses to a Fram CA192, a Purolator AFP-67, or a K-Mart KA23, then you need an Amsoil EAA32. This covers the 1964-1969 cars, unless you have a turbo or a '64 or '65 with air conditioning.   Retail price of this filter is $29.55 from the corporate site.  I'm offering same deal as the oil, dealer cost plus actual post office shipping, and no sales tax. Dealer cost for this filter is 22.50. No tax, just post office shipping (these are light, they'll mail cheap)  Just e-mail me and ask for the price with shipping. Same deal as above.

Performance "Race or Induction" Air filters

Incidentally, if you're running 2 or 4 carbs and using those nifty little chrome air cleaners with the little paper filters, OR you using individual K&N style wet gauze filters, Amsoil offers a better alternative with better airflow that the little chrome jobs, and better airflow and WAY better filtration than the oiled filters. These all depend on your application.  You can see 'em at http://www.amsoil.com/StoreFront/eaau.aspx.  Price depends on size, etc. If you know the inside diameter size you need, let me know and I'll e-mail you back the correct price.

If you are interested in any other Amsoil products for your "modern" car, I'll offer you the same deal. Dealer cost + actual shipping.

Oil Filters

After lots of questions and requests for oil filters, I'll add this.  Amsoil does not make a Corvair oil filter.  However if you would like to use the Amsoil synthetic media depth type filters (which I honestly believe offer the best filtration in the business) you can.  Simply add the Clarks spin-on oil filter adaptor to your  Corvair.  I have done this and use an Amsoil Ea057 spin on filter.  Click here for the Clarks adapter, and here for specs on the Amsoil filter.  Amsoil's list price for the filter is $15.30, Corvair Family price is 11.65.  Clarks also has a right angle filter adapter that takes this same spin on filter.

If you'd like the more common stock style WIX filter for the Corvair, it's number 51038 and would be available from your WIX dealer. Amsoils list price for this filter (Amsoil distributes WIX products too) is $11.20, my NAPA store gets $10.20 for them and I have to special order and wait. Corvair Family cost for  these (wholesale) is $8.40.  I suggest if you want to use these you try to get them thru your local WIX dealer first.
